Ensuring Security of Mobile Devices Is Also Responsibility of a Host!

If you are a web hosting provider, you'd already be aware of the importance of web security, especially in today’s post Heart-bleed security breach era.

As consumers around the world are increasingly buying things online, it is becoming all the more critical for web hosts to offer their customers even more secure payment and browsing options. In last few years, web hosts around the globe have definitely come up with many security features to counter malicious intrusions and malware attacks against websites, but how much attention have they paid towards mobile device security is the burning question on the block right now.

Need for Added Mobile Security

Is traditional secured web hosting the only line of online defense now, especially at a time when we see sophisticated payment systems on top of the line smartphones getting hacked every now and then? Well, a classic example would be hacking of fingerprint payment on Galaxy S5 or a similar fingerprint scanner option on iPhone 5S. It is prudent that a far more secure digital infrastructure is the need of the hour as mobile devices continue to rise around the world.

In order to make fingerprint payment system truly secure, it has become crucial that web hosts start looking into the minute drawbacks and loop holes of this system. To begin with, presently the biggest drawback of the system is that it has been hacked, which was actually done by ethical or white-hat hackers at Security Research Labs in Germany. A lifted print process was employed into the hacking approach, and a similar process was used for hacking iPhone 5S, but supposedly hacking S5 has some very serious implications if it gets hacked.

Vulnerability on Samsung Galaxy S5

In case of iPhone, there is an additional security that demands a password to be put in every time the mobile phone reboots. The password is needed both for purchasing apps and accessing the device. This is where the hacking process was limited but in case of S5 there is no need of entering password to purchase apps, access PayPal accounts or access the device data.

As there is a direct link between the key of fingerprint, and critical account data, the criminals can easily get access to crucial information, by hacking the Samsung device. This could even include the bank account details and other important addresses linked to the account.

Hosts Need to Look at the Security Aspect Seriously

These are some of the reasons why it is imperative that web hosts start working towards more sophisticated mobile device security solutions in a proactive way. It would only help them get an edge over all other competitors who are still unperturbed about the whole security situation concerning mobile devices.
