- 1). Unplug the AC power adapter from the outlet immediately. The most significant way that water can cause damage is by shorting out electrical components. Do not attempt to shutdown normally; the faster you cut off the power, the better. Disconnect all other devices such as the mouse, keyboard and USB devices.
- 2). Wipe as much of the water away from the computer as possible using a soft cloth. Turn the iMac on its side so that any water that made its way inside will not drain any deeper. Make sure that you do not lay the iMac so that pressure is placed on the screen.
- 3). Wait for the water to evaporate. You may put the computer in a slightly warm area, such as above a radiator, but should avoid high heat and direct sunlight. The longer you wait, the less likely that small drops will be lingering inside waiting to cause damage. It could take three or four days for the inside to dry completely, depending on how much water made its way inside. When you are satisfied that the water must have evaporated, reconnect your iMac and turn it on.
