- 1). Tap the home button on the iPhone and swipe the unlock bar to the right to access the phone's home screen.
- 2). Tap the "Settings" icon and tap "General." Tap the "Passcode Lock" tab to access the passcode menu.
- 3). Slide the switch on the simple passcode to the right if you wish to use four digits to lock the device. Alternatively, slide the switch to the left to disable simple passcode to require a difficult passcode combination.
- 4). Touch the "Turn Passcode On" tab, and enter four digits using the phone's onscreen keypad. Enter a combination of numbers and letters if the simple passcode feature is disabled. Create a passcode that is easy to remember and does not include your name or phone number.
- 5). Type the passcode into the verification field to save the passcode and automatically lock the device. Touch the "Require Passcode" tab to choose the amount of elapsed time before the device locks itself. Once the time is selected, press the home button to save and exit the settings.
