The self help movements of the past few decades have placed great sore in the value of positive affirmations.
The question is can positive thinking help you to quit smoking.
Probably the most useful statement I have heard on the subject is attributed to Anthony Robbins.
He stated that affirmations without action, is just self delusion.
Certainly just saying something is so, doesn't make it so.
But combining it with positive supporting action can increase the likely hood of a successful outcome.
Affirmations can help in the short term by directing your thoughts in a positive direction, but it is a bandaid at best.
Affirmations ultimately work because the message filters slowly into your subconscious and may eventually become the default thought or feeling.
Your positive thoughts can be built into your hypnosis session so that those thoughts just naturally and automatically come into your thoughts regularly.
You can create a series of associations which also become affirmations.
E.
g.
an association between the sky or the breeze on your face with being a non smoking fresh air breathing person for life.
How about anytime you see someone exercising it triggers your internal feelings to remind you how good it feels to be a non smoker.
Maybe when you see a small child, or a healthy older person you are reminded why you quit.
It's easy to do and fun, yet effective.
I discovered that there is another elements to successfully affirmations for quitting smoking, or any thing else.
The method is simple; close your eyes in a quiet space, say the affirmation then notice any response in your thoughts feelings or body.
e.
g you state that you are a non smoker, you get a comfortable feeling in your body and a feeling that this is right for you.
This means that your conscious and unconscious mind, are in agreement and so this affirmation will work for you.
In another example you state that "I am successfully quitting smoking", you notice a feeling of doubt or a slumping feeling in your body.
This indicates you have some unconscious resistance.
In this case which will be common for areas of your life which you want to change, but have struggled, there is more work to do.
I recommend affirmations as a way of focussing on the change you desire, prior to a quit cigarettes hypnosis session.
And after to continue to re-enforce your change, but now it will be without any unconscious resistance.
