- 1). Measure the length of the book cover, using a measuring tape. Make sure to measure from the edge of the front cover, around the spine, to the edge of the back cover. Add 6 inches to the measurement. Record the number onto a scrap piece of paper.
- 2). Measure the height of the book cover and add 2 inches to the measurement. Record it onto a scrap piece of paper.
- 3). Measure out and mark a rectangle of cloth that fits the dimensions of the book cover. Cut along the markings with sewing shears.
- 4). Fold the fabric over 1/4 inches along each edge. Use an iron to flatten the edges, then hem the edges using a sewing machine or using neat hand stitches.
- 5). Create the flaps to insert the front and back cover into. Place the cloth with the unfinished hemmed side upward (you should be able to see the fabric fold). Fold the length sides of the cloth over 2.5 inches. Flatten the edge using an iron. Sew the flaps down along the edge of the cloth, using your hemmed line as a guide.
- 6). Cut away any stray threads using sewing shears. Insert the front and back cover into the flaps of the book cover, then close the book.
