Colon Cleansing and Detox Diets

You may have decided to try colon cleansing to improve your health, but don't like the idea of using a colon cleansing kit or enemas, then using a detox diet may be the answer for you. The important thing is that you give your body what it needs to perform at its best. Not everyone likes the same things or makes the same choices. This is true in colon cleansing, especially since it is a personal procedure.

One of the most popular detox and colon cleansing diets is the Master Cleansing Diet which is also known as the Lemonade Diet. This diet involves drinking liquids and consuming no solid foods over a period of ten days, minimum. This diet not only cleans your system, including your colon, but it also causes a great weight loss in a short time. Although it is effective at both detoxifying your body and helping you lose weight in a hurry, it is not recommended for use over a long-term period. It becomes unhealthy and will eventually do more harm than good.

Some diets are based entirely on consuming a lot of dietary fiber. Many people don't get enough fiber in their daily diets and fiber is the ingredient needed by the colon to push waste out of the body. Not having enough fiber in your waste will cause digestion to slow down and too much water may be absorbed from it. This causes dried, hard stools to form which leads to constipation. It is also the cause of feces being trapped in the colon where it stays and builds up for years.

Although it makes sense to add fiber to your diet to improve your digestion and clean your colon, it is also possible to add too much fiber. When you suddenly increase your fiber intake to more than the recommended amount, your body may push waste through the digestive tract too quickly. It is better for you to balance your diet with natural fiber in the amount recommended for your age, sex, and size.

Some of these diets promote the herbal cleaning of your digestive system, your colon, or your entire body. It is their reasoning that since all of the ingredients are natural, then the system has to be good for you. It is always a good idea when you use a product containing herbs to know the specific herbs and what they can do. Just like medications, herbs can have side effects or simply not work the same way for everyone that uses them.

When people use these diets, they report that they also have the benefit of losing their cravings for junk food. Addictive ingredients such as sugar or caffeine no longer appeal to them and they begin to crave healthier foods. These diets have reportedly been used to eliminate addictive behavior in those who had problems with drinking, smoking, or using drugs. If they can eliminate this type of behavior, it would seem promising that they can make you pass up the fast food restaurants on your way home.

Colon cleansing and detox diets have been shown to clean out your colon. However, it's still up for debate as to whether this is a necessary practice for your good health.
