- The first step to becoming a radiologic technologist and earning the starting salaries available in the industry is to successfully pass a course in X-ray technology at either a university or a medical facility. Typically, this takes between 21 months and two years to complete. Training in other imaging technologies is often undertaken on-the-job. Courses approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists are highly regarded by employers.
- Predictions published by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics suggest a healthy employment sector for radiologic technologists in the near future. It estimates demand for the services of qualified practitioners will rise by some 17 percent in the decade 2008 to 2018. Mastery of several imaging techniques, such as computed tomography, is likely to secure the best remuneration rates.
