- 1). Run the soil aerator over your lawn. Do this around midsummer to make sure you have aerated the soil well so the other lawn grass has had plenty of time to emerge before the herbicides are applied to the crab grass.
- 2). Apply the pre-emergent herbicide to the entire lawn with the seed spreader. Apply this type of fertilizer only after the lawn has been cut at least three times to help save the other grass but eradicate the crab grass.
- 3). Irrigate the lawn thoroughly with the sprinkler system to activate the herbicide.
- 4). Apply the emergent herbicide to any crab grass that you notice cropping up during the year, making sure to keep the surrounding grass shielded
