How to Estimate the Cost for Party Food

    • 1). Make a list of the people you expect to attend your party.

    • 2). List the types of food you intend to serve at your party. Generally, this list might include "Main Dishes," "Appetizers," "Drinks" and "Desserts."

    • 3). Decide on the number and specific types of each dish that you want to serve from each category. You can either vary the number of dishes or the amount of each dish you serve based on the number of people in attendance.

    • 4). Group and list these dishes under the categories you established in Step 2. You should also list the ingredients for items you plan to cook or bake yourself.

    • 5). Consult the Internet or browse items at a grocery store to estimate the average cost of each item you plan to buy.

    • 6). Calculate the total cost of party food by adding these individual prices together using a calculator.
