Over the years, I have lived in many suburban areas, and never really in a large city or in a downtown area.
Many of those that have lived in the city, places like Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Seattle, Portland, Philadelphia, and Washington DC are quite used to using mass transit.
Personally, I am not, and I enjoy the ability and freedom which comes with driving my own car or riding my own motorcycle.
Mass transit seems inconvenient to me, although not living in the city, and residing in the suburbs, I never really have to worry about finding a parking place once I get to my destination.
Nevertheless, many left leaning Democrats who moved out to the suburbs are immediately annoyed that there is no mass transit to get around town.
Of course, there also isn't the traffic, so really there is no need anyway, but they are still perturbed.
In fact they are so upset, that they demand local politicians put in more buses, and mass transit in for all the people.
Unfortunately a good amount of the suburban cities and areas are already built out, and putting in mass transit gets quite expensive.
The most interesting thing is even when they do put in mass transit services such as buses, commuter trains, and what have you is; it amazing how few people really use them, and how much it costs the taxpayer per rider.
Another thing I find rather insidious in all this is that mass transit also becomes less than safe due to the types of riders which partake in those services.
There are often criminals, those who don't fit into society, and folks that either can't afford a car, or can't keep a driver's license.
It is also interesting that whenever folks want to get back at the establishment, they use the mass transit as a platform, or a place to air their grievances.
CBS had a feature on TV recently on August 15, 2011 titled; "San Francisco-Bay Area trains snarled by protest," and in the article one of the police chiefs dealing with the situation on the day of the protest at BART stated; "Once the platform becomes unsafe, we can't jeopardize the safety of patrons and employees," BART Deputy Police Chief Dan Hartwig said.
" What bothers me in all this is it is the left-leaning socialist thinking Democrats who wanted the mass transit system in the first place.
And then their left-leaning co-hearts are the ones that disrupt the system once it gets up and running, at the taxpayer's expense.
Maybe we should save the taxpayers a lot of money, and sell the mass transit systems to private enterprise and large corporations who can run it and make a profit, rather than letting it dig a hole in our government's budget, and causing us angst when humans in mass mobs decide to protest.
Let's just take it away from them, why subject ourselves to more cost, hassles, and soft targets for terrorists.
