- 1). Search for your county online. Taxes are usually handled by an assessors' or collectors' office at the county level.
- 2). Research your property's taxes and taxable rate historically. If you lived in the home when it was appraised and subsequently taxed for the previous year, your most previous assessment will be reflected.
- 3). Find the most recent appraisal for the property. If taxes have not yet been assessed for the current year, calculate the assessment by looking at the previous year's tax rates and multiplying the rate times the most recent appraised value. For example, if your home's value is $250,000 and your tax rate is 1.7 percent, your annual taxes would be $4,250.
