- 1). Turn off the trimmer and lay it on the ground. You risk serious injury if the trimmer is running when you change the spool.
- 2). Turn the spool cap to the left to unscrew it from the trimmer base.
- 3). Pull the cap and the old spool off of the trimmer and dispose of the spool in a waste receptacle.
- 4). Clean grass and dirt off of the spool cap and the motorized head that sits under the spool. Grass and dirt can wear down the head, limiting the lifespan of your weed trimmer.
- 5). Hold onto the line coming from the new spool and slide the new spool into the motorized head. The line you are holding onto should slide into the slot on the motorized head.
- 6). Reattach the spool cap by twisting it to the right on the motorized head. You should grip the line coming through the slot to ensure it isn't twisted into the motorized head.
