Choosing the Right Joint Care

We all know that we need to care for our bodies. News revolving around how to stay fit and how to eat healthy is constantly in the media. With all the numbers involving how overweight our population is, it is obvious that our country is moving in the wrong direction health-wise. Most people are aware of the risks involving diabetes, heart disease and cancer, but unless you are living with joint pain, joint care may not be an issue you have considered. We need to care for our joints so that they can care for us.

There are many ways we can care for our joints. Anything we do that reduces the stress placed on them in any way is a positive action. There is much we can do that goes beyond simple weight management, “simple” being a relative term! It is true that extra weight puts added stress and strain on knees, hips, feet and our backs. A loss of extra pounds translates to an excellent choice in joint therapy and pain relief.

So what are some other things people can do to relieve the stress on their joints? Good posture costs nothing and can help the joints in your lower body function in a less painful manner. It is important, also, to not spend too much time in one position as this can lead to stiffness and pain. Rest when your body needs it is simple and effective. If you are in pain it is important to pay attention to your body.

Many people mistake discomfort with pain. It is important to keep the body moving so that stiffness and a lack of flexibility do not become a growing issue. Serious pain should be addressed, however. It is best to avoid putting strain or stress on joints when they are already inflamed and painful.

Physical therapists excel in showing patients exercises and movements that are meant to relieve pain. They are also skilled at knowing how to increase the range of motion in affected joints, all while avoiding movement that will cause more pain and damage. Everyday tasks such as bathing, sitting and getting out of a chair, or getting in and out of your car are addressed by therapists, and techniques are shared to keep joints happier. You can also learn better ways in which to distribute and spread the stress on your joints. Alternatives to current methods of accomplishing tasks are often taught, as well, and can help affected joints get much needed rest.

Do not discount something as simple as a supplement. Many of these have been proven to reduce inflammation in painful joints. Along with a lessening of inflammation comes less stiffness, and most importantly, less pain. That’s the goal, after all! Many of these also have no adverse side effects. One supplement made from cetylated fatty acids has hit on one such formula. It has been shown in studies to reduce inflammation and stiffness. Find what works for you, care for your body, and enjoy your life!
