How to Clean a SIG P239

    Unload the Gun

    • 1). Press the magazine catch to release the magazine.

    • 2). Pull the slide all the way back to eject any round that might be in the chamber. The slide will stay locked and open.

    • 3). Inspect the chamber visually to make sure it is clear.

    • 4). Press the slide catch lever to close the slide.

    Disassemble the Gun

    • 1). Pull the slide back to the stop. Lock it open by using the slide catch lever.

    • 2). Lower the takedown lever to its vertical position.

    • 3). Pull the slide back slightly until the slide catch lever releases. The slide will then move slightly forward.

    • 4). Pull the entire slide assembly forward off the frame.

    • 5). Turn the slide over. Press the recoil spring guide forward slightly. Lift it up out of the slide assembly.

    • 6). Lift the barrel up out of the slide assembly.

    Clean the Gun

    • 1). Squeeze a small amount of gun oil on the cleaning brush to lubricate it.

    • 2). Insert the cleaning brush into the barrel, opposite the muzzle end.

    • 3). Wipe the chamber and barrel bore with cleaning patches to remove gunpowder residue.

    • 4). Brush the exterior of the barrel with the cleaning brush.

    • 5). Wipe the frame guides, slide, recoil spring and recoil spring guide with a cleaning cloth. Use the brush on the inside of the slide and on the frame if they are particularly dirty.

    • 6). Lubricate all pieces lightly with gun oil.

    Reassemble the Gun

    • 1). Hold the slide upside down. Re-inset the barrel back into the slide.

    • 2). Place the recoil spring guide into the assembly, on top of the barrel.

    • 3). Guide the slide back onto the front of the frame. Align the slide with the rails on the frame. Make sure the takedown lever is in the vertical position.

    • 4). Pull the slide all the way back until the slide catch lever engages. With the slide locked in the open position, lift the takedown lever up to its horizontal position.

    • 5). Press the slide catch lever. The slide will release and slide into the normal position.

    • 6). Press the decocking lever to decock the hammer.
