  Job interviews are not only about the employer determining if the candidate is right for the job but also about providing the applicant an opportunity to gauge if the company is a good fit. Since interviews can be stressful, job candidates should write a list in advance of questions they want answered during the meeting. Sometimes the interviewer may focus entirely on the candidate and forget to discuss the reasons why the candidate should consider working for this company.

• Ask the human resource officer or interviewer questions related to the working environment. These include asking him or her to describe the work environment, the company's commitment to equal opportunity and diversity and the philosophy of the organization.
  
  

The Position

• Gain insight into what the job involves or the opportunities for advancement by asking additional questions about the position. Some questions include asking the interviewer to detail the day-to-day responsibilities, how soon they are looking to fill this position, the prospects for advancement, what opportunities this job can lead to, how this positions relates to the bottom line and the major problems the department or position is currently facing.
  
  

The Company

• If the company has experienced layoffs within the past two years, ask additional questions about the company and its policies. For instance, inquire why there were layoffs, how were the layoffs handled, what rewards are given for exceptional work and if are there formal metrics in place for measuring performance.
