- 1). Drink raspberry leaf tea and/or pineapple juice. Certain properties (tannins and flavonoids) in raspberry leaf act as an astringent which tightens and strengthens the walls of the uterus, easing the pain. Acting in almost the opposite way, the bromelains in pineapples relaxes the muscles to ease pain.
- 2). Try to limit your intake of sugar and salt, both of which have been shown to make menstrual cramps worse.
- 3). Use a heating pad or hot water bottle to provide relief through heat. Placing it on the stomach is an obvious use, but placing heat on the back can also be very effective. Taking a hot bath can also be very soothing.
- 4). Try cold if heat doesn't do the trick. Ice packs placed on the stomach can help with sharp pains.
- 5). Talk a walk or a swim. Though sometimes exercise seems counterintuitive when you are fatigued and in pain, light exercise can actually help relieve cramps.
