I sincerely believe there is a law of attraction but not the way the proponents of this new age theory have presented it.
To me the latest law of attraction books including The Secret is just another false religion disguised as non religious.
Most proponents of the law of attraction are quick to point out you must be spiritual but replace the power of God with the power of the universe or quantum physics.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Where do good things come from? Did it say from the universal energy flow? Did it say from some quantum physics cluster of energy? Did it say from our positive vibrations bouncing around and returning to us? If I'm not mistaken it says EVERY good gift and EVERY perfect gift comes from God.
As in all false religions and doctrines there are things that are true about the law of attraction which helps its cause but in reality all of those good things can be found in scripture and provided by God through Jesus Christ and not by some higher self or some fictitious universal river of energy.
I listened to a positive thinking CD which proclaims the law of attraction and over and over again the guy stated that everything was undeniably scientifically proven yet if you look at all of the unbiased commentaries you find this is far from the case.
In one breath we are told about the scientifically verified facts about how quantum physics works and in the next breath the guy says he is far from an expert about quantum physics.
There is a real law of attraction that brings about results but it is way different to how these guys are saying it works and it doesn't come from where they say it comes from.
Take Proverbs 18:24 for example where it says if you want to have friends you must show yourself to be friendly.
That is a prime example of the real law of attraction in action.
Many of the things these guys say are based on truth but they are crediting a false God for it happening.
There is truth in the fact that we need to renew our minds.
Statements like we must let go are also true.
The Bible calls it forgiveness.
There is a lot to be said for positive thinking and removing negative thinking.
Statements like believing before seeing and believing from your heart are all fabulous when linked to scripture.
I actually got a lot out of listening to the law of attraction CD and I am very excited about the possibilities when applying Biblical thinking to what was being said so I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water so to speak however I do want to call things as they are.
While changing our thinking and having a positive outlook on life and using visualization techniques are all helpful and will improve our quality of life the cold hard reality is that our minds need to be changed completely by God himself.
Romans 8:7 says the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
Our natural minds are the enemy of God! Proverbs 3:5 says to trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
We must be born again and then we can have the mind of Christ as stated in 1 Corinthians 2:16.
Now that is the mind you should be tapping into if you want to see real tangible power and happiness in your life.
