- 1). Make a quilt. This is a project in which you can include more than one family member, even those from the other family. The Double Wedding Ring pattern became quite common in the early 20th century.
- 2). Embroider or cross-stitch pillows and blankets. Use patterns with traditional wedding symbols like wedding rings, hearts, doves, ribbons and lace. Include the names of the bride and groom, along with a wedding date. The happy couple may even use a pillow for the ceremony.
- 3). Embroider your new family tree or, if the wife takes on the husband's family name, the family crest and motto if applicable, for an heirloom they can frame and hang on the wall.
- 4). Have precious metal or glass engraved for things like wedding frames, toasting flutes or wedding accessories.
- 5). Pass on family jewelry like rings or pocket watches with the new couple's information engraved into it. If a beloved member of the family has passed on, this makes a poignant statement to include the missing loved one in the life of the new couple.
- 6). Create a family cookbook. This gives the couple a wealth of tried and true family favorites. Include pictures and messages and make sure members from both sides are included.
