- 1). Gather your paperwork and the verification for your paintings. If your paintings haven't been verified by a professional, contact a local art museum and ask the curator who can verify the artist of paintings.
- 2). Contact an auction house that specializes in art. They'll be able to handle your paintings with care and dignity while also reaching the right people--those who will desire the paintings and able to afford them.
- 3). Request an estimate. Tell them that you have the verification, any paperwork you have and pictures of the paintings. Offer to send copies of everything via fax or email. You will likely have to fill out their estimate form and wait several weeks while they go over the form and assign you an auction date and number.
- 4). Arrange with the auction company to have the paintings either moved or shipped to their facility for photography and storage while they put your items in their catalog.
- 5). Set a reserve price. This is the lowest price you'll accept for each painting. You'll also have to agree to the fee that the auction company sets. Sign the seller contract and wait to receive your money after the auction.
