"The Bourne Ultimatum" is not only a non-stop spy action flick but also it's an excellent example of the thriller genre - a man is on the run for 3 years trying to find out who he is.
He is a former CIA agent who volunteered for a top-secret program.
Then things did not go as planned and Jason Bourne became a hunted man.
Is he David Webb, instead of Jason Bourne? His memory is surfacing in bits and pieces as he breaks into CIA's New York office and steals the project folders from the safe of the CIA station chief.
So he was David Webb and he became Jason Bourne, as well as a number of other made-up identities? Since he knows how lethal he is, he's trying to remember all the people he killed while he went amnesiac.
He is cornered and radioactive dangerous! Central point is - an "innocent" man finds himself in the thick of things.
Things happen to him and he is all alone in his pursuit of the solution to the problem..
except the ambivalent "love interest.
" The more he tries to explain things to the others the more untrustworthy he becomes.
He walks on the edge of insanity.
The camera work in this film is just fascinating since it visually captures the flow of consciousness swirl, the ebb and flow of Bourne's awareness.
Things come into focus, he realizes certain things about his own past, and then we are immediately steered towards yet another layer of his identity puzzle.
I've never seen the kind of jumping from the rooftops and driving off the roofs scenes in any other film.
Especially amazing is the scene where Bourne jumps from a rooftop in Brooklyn into the cold waters of the East River in order to escape his CIA chasers.
As he comes back to his senses and the film ends, we know this series will continue and there'll be another day for Bourne (played by Matt Damon) to even out the score with those who turned him into the most lethal weapon the world has ever seen.
A great action-thriller franchise that I'm sure will extend into the future, as long as Matt Damon can continue to jump from the rooftops with such gravity-defying immunity.
