How to Cut a Trench in Concrete

    • 1). Mark the trench in the concrete by spray painting the outline of the trench onto the concrete.

    • 2). Hold the jackhammer with a firm grip and place the tip along one of the lines, leaning it slightly in toward you.

    • 3). Start the jackhammer and dig into the concrete, guiding the jackhammer toward the center of the trench. Continue to keep a firm hold on the jackhammer but don't push down on it.

    • 4). Stop the jackhammer when you break through the bottom of the slab. Remove the concrete chunks from the trench.

    • 5). Continue to dig the trench with the jackhammer. If the trench is wider than a few feet, work on one side until the trench is halfway done and then move to the other side.
