- 1). Trace a circle with an 8-inch diameter onto the back of the origami paper with a pencil and ruler.
- 2). Cut out the circle. You can also use a doily with an 8-inch diameter.
- 3). Place the paper on a flat surface with the colored side down.
- 4). Fold the paper in half, bringing the bottom half of the paper up to meet the top half.
- 5). Fold the left side of the paper to the right side, folding the paper in half again so that it makes a triangle. Crease this fold well, then unfold it.
- 6). Fold each straight edge of the paper in and up until it touches the crease in the middle. Crease these folds well, flattening the paper.
- 7). Fold the paper in half along the crease you made in Step 4. The edges you folded in during Step 6 should now be invisible inside the newest fold you made.
- 8). Turn the paper so that the sharp point faces away from you, with the curved edge of the circle pointed toward you. The open part of the fold should face to the left.
- 9). Separate the open part of the folded triangle slightly with your fingers, without unfolding it. It should open into two sections, each of which should be two layers of paper thick.
- 10
Cut a diagonal line through the first section or two layers of paper. The line should be about 1 1/2 inches long, should start at the bottom and middle of the triangle and should slant to the right so that it ends near the middle righthand side of the triangle. - 11
Grasp the new strip of paper you created on the lefthand side of the triangle and fold it upward on an angle toward the righthand side of the triangle. It will be one wing of the dove, with the pointy end of the triangle as the head. - 12
Turn the paper over. Repeat Steps 9 through 11. - 13
Fold the tip of the triangle, or the head of the bird, down toward the body on an angle. The fold should run between the tip of the triangle and the start of the bottom of the wing. - 14
Crease this fold well and unfold. - 15
Open the body slightly and push the tip of the head so that it bends down and folds inward on itself, following the crease you just made. This new fold should be hidden inside the head of the dove, and the beak should point down sharply.
