How to Effectively Fight Bad Breath

Talks about halitosis always end up with ideas on how to fight bad breath. While there are the conventional treatments like brushing your teeth, tongue scraping, and flossing, there are also other treatments you can try to fight bad breath and keep it smelling fresh and clean.

Unconventional treatments do not need to be unique. You do not have to go out of your way to fight bad breath. Some of the unconventional treatments are things you possibly have already done or are currently doing. Knowing how these fight bad breath can help you be more vigilant.
  1. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Keeping hydrated not only keeps your body in peak condition, it also reduces halitosis because it keeps your mouth moist. The anaerobic bacteria that cause breath odor thrive in dry conditions, so this can help mitigate your breath issue.
  2. Chew on sugarless gum to induce saliva production. Saliva is our body's natural guard against foul breath. It washes down the bacteria in the mouth and keeps it moist. Sugar can accumulate at the back of your tongue and cause breath issues, so stick to the sugarless version for maximum effect. Lozenges are another alternative.
  3. Snacking on vegetables. Carrot and celery sticks help keep plaque from forming on your teeth. Having a handful of these vegetables in the afternoons will be very helpful. Another plus point? Vegetables are light and easily digested, so you do not get that heavy feeling after you eat the snack.
  4. Avoid anything that can dry your mouth, giving anaerobic bacteria a perfect place to grow. This includes anything that is alcohol or caffeine based. Examples include coffee, mouthwash, beer, and hard drinks. One exception to this rule is tea. Although it does contain caffeine, the dilution makes the amount negligible. Also, tea contains cleansing properties, which help you maintain your sweet breath.
  5. Chewing on mint, peppermint, or parsley leaves. These have been proven to fight bad breath. They contain chlorophyll, which is a natural breath freshener, and also has bacterial fighting agents. Remember that sprig that decorated your dinner plate? Go ahead and chew on it. It acts as a breath freshener and works better than breath mints do.

These are just some of the unconventional treatments that are easy to do to fight this condition. You can also use herbal treatments, as natural works better than the chemical alternatives. Just make sure that the treatment you choose to fight bad breath works for you and does not have harmful side effects
