How to Install a Ceiling Fan & Estimate the Cost

    • 1). Go to your hardware store and view the prices of various models of ceiling fans. Purchase the unit that best fits your needs and your budget.

    • 2). Turn off the power to the appropriate circuit at the home's service panel.

    • 3). Unscrew the existing fixture with a screwdriver and gently pull it away from the ceiling.

    • 4). Test the circuit with a circuit tester inserted into the black and white wires. If it does not react, the circuit is off and you can safely unhook the old fixture.

    • 5). Look into the hold and verify that the electrical box is metal and that it has heavy duty cross braces, intended for ceiling fans.

    • 6). String the wires from the top of the ceiling fan motor through the rod hanger pipe. Attach the pipe to the motor collar using the included hanging pin. Tighten the mounting screws firmly, but do not overtighten and strip them.

    • 7). Hang the fan's motor assembly by its hook on the metal mounting box and connect the wires according to the manufacturer's directions. In most cases, the wires will be connected using wire connectors that require pressing the wires together and twisting them firmly into a cap. If this is the case, the wire connectors are typically included in the ceiling fan kit.

    • 8). Tuck the wires inside the metal box and attach the fan to the ceiling.

    • 9). Turn on the power supply and test the fan.
