How to Calculate the Size of a Chandelier

    • 1). Measure the height of the room where the chandelier will be installed. In general, you should allow approximately 3 inches per foot. For example, if the room is 10 feet tall, the light fixture should be not more than 30 inches in height.

    • 2). Add 1 to 2 inches to the height measurement if the room has unusually high ceilings. Additionally, the chandelier should not hang lower than seven feet from the floor.

    • 3). Add the dimensions of the room to determine the width of the chandelier. For example, in a 10-by-12-foot room, the chandelier should not be wider than 22 inches in diameter.

    • 4). Hang a dining room chandelier about 30 inches above and centered over the dining room table. If the table is unusually long, consider installing two smaller chandeliers.
