How to Calculate Maturity of United States Savings Bonds Series EE

    • 1). Gather the information about your bond by either having the paper bond directly in front of you or by looking up your electronic bond information. You will need to know the series of the bond (EE), the denomination or face value of your bond, the serial number and the bond's issue date.

    • 2). Go to the US Department of the Treasury's website, Treasury Direct. Ensure you are on the page entitled, "Calculate the Value of Your Paper Savings Bond(s)."

    • 3). Complete the "Value as of" box with the two-digit month and four-digit year you want to check. This can be the current month and year, as though you would cash out the bond immediately, a date in the past for estate purposes, or a future date.

    • 4). Select "EE Bonds" from the drop-down menu under the "Series" field. Select the denomination value for your bond from the drop-down box in the "Denomination" field. The denomination on a paper bond is printed at the top-left corner.

    • 5). Enter the serial number of the bond, found at the bottom-right corner of a paper bond, in the "Bond Serial Number" field. Check this number to ensure you have keyed the numbers correctly and in the correct order.

    • 6). Enter the "Issue Date" as the two-digit month and four-digit year listed for the bond for when it was purchased. On a paper bond the issue date is found just below the "Series EE" text at the top-right corner.

    • 7). Click on the "Calculate" button. The information given will reflect the value of maturity the bond has or had as of the date you specified in Step 3. Go back and adjust only the "Value as of" field to find other maturity values for the bond based on other cash-in dates.
