On August 10, 2006, gel and liquid based explosives in large amounts were discovered by the UK security authorities.
These dangerous chemicals were to be utilized in a massive plot of terrorist attacks on around ten flights scheduled at different times between the UK and the US.
To prevent the possibility of such dangerous plots in future, the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) in the United States enforced the 'Airline Carry-on Liquid' regulations and rules to regulate the kind of liquids that can or cannot be taken on board.
These rules are very strict and have been accepted widely by people as essential requirements for ensuring safety of passengers traveling by the aircraft carriers.
Here are some basic facts about these carry-on liquid rules for airline travel.
•On-board passengers are permitted to carry only limited amount of gels and liquids with them.
The permissible quantities of these products are too small to be considered a threat to the nation's security.
As per the TSA rules, the total volume of the liquids carried on board by any passenger should not exceed three ounce.
Nonetheless, larger volumes of liquid products can be carried as part of the checked luggage.
•As per the rules, the gel or liquid products can be carried only in a quart-sized bag of plastic, and only one such bag in every single screening bin can be taken inside the flight.
•Liquid products carried as gifts in decorative wrappers can be taken only in the checked luggage.
•Liquids, gels, and beverages of any kind can be purchased by the passengers after having cleared the security check at the airport terminal.
These TSA-recommended airline rules and regulations for carry-on liquids are being followed by several countries, such as Belgium, Australia, Canada, Austria, Egypt, China, India, Italy, Japan, and Germany, to name a few.
