He said he was Henry Gale, but later the real Henry Gale was found deceased and buried. Locke asked what he should call this guy, but he just said that he was used to Henry. The other characters still call him Henry, but I refer to him as "non-Henry".
Later, he became known by his real name, Benjamin Linus.

A man is caught in one of Danielle Rousseau's nets. She brings Sayid to the man, who says his name is Henry Gale. Sayid cuts him down, despite Rousseau's protests. Rousseau says he is an Other and shoots Henry in the shoulder with an arrow. Sayid carries him to the hatch.
Sayid wakes up Locke and explains what happened. They tie Henry up. Jack comes in and asks what is going on. He wants to untie Henry. Sayid says he can treat him, but not to untie him until they get some answers. Henry says he and his wife were on a trip in a hot air balloon and crashed on the island.
Jack takes the arrowhead out of Henry. Against Jack's will, Sayid takes Henry into the armory and tortures him to get answers. Henry says that his wife died and he buried her out by where his balloon is.

Jack and Locke give Henry food and they let him out of the armory to use the bathroom.
When Eko comes into the hatch, Jack tells Henry to keep quiet in the bathroom, but Eko sees the cot and knows that someone is there. He asks to talk to the man in the hatch, and later does. Alone in the armory with Henry, Eko tells him he is sorry for killing the two men who terrorized their camp.
Henry tells Locke that he doesn't understand why Locke lets Jack call the shots. Locke is so angry, that when he goes out of the armory he breaks some dishes. Henry smirks. - Episode 2x16, The Whole Truth
Ana-Lucia questions Henry and gets a map to where his balloon is, but she doesn't tell Jack or Locke. The two of them are too busy worrying about who holds the power. Henry takes advantage of this by telling them that he gave Ana-Lucia a map and that if he were an Other he'd have his people waiting for her to attack. - Episode 2x17, Lockdown
Jack demands that Henry draw another map to the balloon, but Henry says he was kidding about being an Other.
Henry is locked in the armory when a lockdown occurs in the hatch. He convinces Locke to let him out so he can help. Locke does and they try to pry one of the doors open. Locke tries to squeeze under, but the door comes down on him. Knowing the timer is getting close to zero, Locke tells Henry the numbers and tells him to crawl through the vents to type the numbers into the computer. When Henry climbs up to the vent, he falls, and the beeping of the timer begins. Henry gets up again and makes it through. Suddenly the beeping stops and the doors go up.
Locke thanks Henry for his help. When Sayid, Charlie, and Ana-Lucia get back from finding the balloon, they confront Henry, and Locke tries to defend him. They show Henry the driver's license they found on the dead body buried by the balloon. On the license is an African American man named Henry Gale.

Sayid and Ana-Lucia interrogate non-Henry. He says the real Henry Gale was dead when he found him. Non-Henry was part of a rescue party. Sayid says he's lying and wants to know how many of them (the Others) there are. Non-Henry says he can't say or "He" will kill him. Sayid wants to kill him, but Ana-Lucia stops him.
Locke asks what to call him and non-Henry says he can just keep calling him Henry. - Episode 2x19, S.O.S.
Non-Henry stops eating and talking. Locke wants to know if non-Henry had entered the numbers during the lockdown, but he doesn't answer. - Episode 2x20, Two for the Road
Ana-Lucia brings non-Henry food and he tries to strangle her for killing two good people. Locke hits him with his crutch. Later, Locke wants to know why Henry hadn't killed him during the lockdown and non-Henry says that Locke is one of the good ones. He was on his way to see Locke when he was captured.
Michael lets non-Henry go after shooting Ana-Lucia and Libby. - Episode 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone
Non-Henry could possibly be the leader of the Others. He gets off a boat and tells Michael he's not happy about the arrangement, but since he brought Kate, Hurley, Jack, and Sawyer, Michael is free to leave on the boat with Walt.
