- Some pole saws are connected to a weed trimmer. If they are, make sure the saw's connection is secure. If the connection is not secure, the saw may disconnect during use.
- Examine the saw teeth and make sure there are no clogs or breaks in the chain. Any breaks or saw teeth that are damaged or missing may cause the chain to snap off the saw during use.
- Wear safety gloves that fully cover your hands. Pieces of tree limbs may come in contact with you during use. Wear safety goggles that fully protect your eyes. There cannot be any open spaces between the eyes and the goggles, as the debris can get into any size opening.
- Make sure that the chain's oiler is working properly, so that it dispenses the proper amount of oil. An unoiled chain can break during use.
- While cutting down a branch, do not stand under the branch. Stand away from it, so that when it falls, it will not fall on top of you. Firmly hold the saw so that it does not fall out of your hands.
