The study of the human mind and its impact on human behavior holds a great deal of interest for people in the United States and around the world. Neuropsychology may interest neurologists, psychologists, speech pathologists, educational professionals and others. Several professional associations exist to provide professionals with advocacy, continuing training, networking opportunities and the latest news from the field. - Division 40 is an organization within the American Psychological Association (APA) specifically dedicated to the study of brain-behavior relationships. The organization focuses on the importance of scientific research to inform knowledge and clinical techniques. Division 40 provides members with access to standards of practice, ongoing training, the opportunity to make a difference through committee work and access to breaking research. Individuals must be a member of the APA to apply for membership in Division 40. First-time membership fees are $34 and an annual affiliate fee of $5 is charged to a member’s APA renewal bill.
- The National Academy of Neuropsychology seeks to advance the profession and, ultimately, to promote human welfare. To that end, the organization focuses on professional development, education and training, research, outreach to students, ethics and diversity. Members of NAN have access to a full member directory and a news bulletin, and receive a subscription to the Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology. Membership levels include student, affiliate, associate and professional. Dues begin at $50 for students and go up to $125. Individuals without the appropriate education but with interest in the field can be affiliate members and have access to information without voting and committee rights.
- The International Neuropsychological Society also focuses on the scientific aspects of brain-behavior relationships, with a specific focus on a human’s entire lifespan. Members of INS have access to networking opportunities and receive a subscription to the bi-monthly Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society. Members also receive discounts on certain books and journals and may attend INS events at a discounted rate. Associate membership begins at $60, with full membership available for $120.
