- 1). Create at least 54 crochet chain stitches in ribbon yarn. Measure the baby's head and make as many additional chain stitches as necessary to accommodate the baby's head size. Make an even number of chain stitches, such as 56, 58 or 60. Slip stitch the ends of the chain together to complete a circle.
- 2). Make a puffy stitch in the slip stitch by looping the ribbon yarn over the crochet hook one time, insert the hook in the chain stitch, put the ribbon yarn over the crochet hook again and pull the yarn through the chain to make three loops on the hook. Loop the yarn over one more time, insert the hook in the same chain stitch and pull a loop through the chain again to make five loops on the hook. Loop the yarn over again and pull it through for a total of seven loops on the hook. Loop the ribbon yarn over the crochet hook and pull it through all seven loops to make a puffy stitch.
- 3). Add another row for a wider headband. Cut a piece of matching ribbon, add a drop of hot glue or stitch one end of the ribbon on the back side of the seam, and wrap it tightly around the seam area.
- 4). Glue or stitch the ribbon on the back side to make an attractive gather in the headband. Attach silk or crochet flowers to the ribbon to add a fashionable touch to the baby's headband.
