Decorating a Pink & Brown Bedroom

    • 1). Paint the walls pink, brown or a combination of the two colors. Mix up different patterns, such as stripes on the bottom half of the wall and polka dots on top, to add visual interest. Pink and brown floral or damask patterned wallpaper can set the tone for a traditional look. Paint one wall with a pattern, such as pink and brown zebra stripes, to serve as an accent wall. Paint the three surrounding walls a gentle pink or brown color so as to not overwhelm the room.

    • 2). Place your furniture in a way that draws attention to your focal point, such as an accent wall. Chocolate brown or cherry stained wood works well for a pink and brown color palette, although white furniture can ground the room if you're using hot pink and chocolate brown. Include a pink upholstered chair or paint a chest or nightstand pink if you want to lighten the furniture.

    • 3). Use bedding that complements the room. Busy patterns work best if your walls are solid pink, brown or white and solid bedding looks best against a patterned wall. Reversible comforters with a pattern on one side, such as stripes, polka dots or flowers, and solid pink on the other work well for teens or younger girls because they can easily change their bedding according to their moods.

    • 4). Hang window treatments that complement the bedding. If your bedding has a soft floral pattern, hang curtains or valances with the same pattern. Use different fabrics, such as silk, organza or velvet, for the window coverings to add texture to the room. Simple shades or blinds work as well, and might be ideal for a child's room.

    • 5). Add wall decor to tie the room together. Peel-and-stick vinyl adhesives can add color, texture and pattern to the room if you can't paint. Hang framed mirrors on floral patterned walls and round mirrors on a polka-dotted wall. Use pink frames against brown walls and brown frames against pink walls. Decorate wooden or fabric letters with pink and brown patterns to spell out a child's name. Hang pictures of pink flowers, such as cherry blossoms, roses or a field of pink wildflowers for a more mature looking room.

    • 6). Accessorize the room with a rug, such as pink and brown circles for a polka-dotted room. Add a variety of pillows to the bed. Mix stripes with floral patterns for a gender-neutral look. Fill pink, brown or clear vases with bouquets of pink flowers. Arrange pink or white candles on a brown plate or bowl. A simple pink lamp can include a pink and brown striped, floral or polka-dotted shade. Or cover a shade with furry pink material to fit over a brown lamp.
