Insurance for people with criminal convictions

The applicant looking for insurance has served their time in prison and comes out to start a new life. They need to get insurance for simple everyday subjects like insuring their car or their property and immediately start having difficulty because they have come across the question on the application form they must answer yes to…. They have a criminal conviction.

A period of time has gone by and they want to start a business and for any business you do need insurance. If you are working for yourself as a painter / decorator you will need public liability insurance. There are companies who specialise in helping ex offenders and some of these advertise at the jml insurance web site at  http://www.jml-insurance.co.uk/types.php?id=83&sec=16

Many ex offenders are unaware that they must disclose any unspent criminal conviction no matter how minor on an insurance proposal form. Do not be fooled, just because an insurer does not ask if you have any convictions, does not mean you do not need to disclose them. Unless all your convictions are declared and agreed in writing with an insurer, any claim against the policy may be refused. The applicant with a criminal conviction could even be charged with attempting to defraud the insurers for non-disclosure of a conviction and potentially face another conviction.

One of the insurance brokers who helps people with criminal records find insurance recently spoke to several ex offenders about they would say in their own lingo about buying insurance.

Then they suggested the following.

1      Forget kats and dogs= buy our insurance!2      I'm going down the apples and pears to get my dog and bone insured3      I've just finished a carpet now I want my home insured4      I had a few quotes but they wanted a monkey per year, all I wanted was my old Jam Jar insured5      Slop out slop into our insurance

6     The greatest escape without a crime being committed 7     Don't lock it down open it up 8     Strike while the iron is hot

If you have a criminal conviction it might be easier to obtain insurance from a specialist insurance broker who you can actually talk to opposed to an automated quote system.
