Disney Dream Lounges and Bars Overview
Most people recognize Disney Cruises as a top provider of family entertainment. However, the Disney cruise ships all have adult "playgrounds" (bars and lounges) that allow parents or adults traveling without kids to have a quiet drink, enjoy the ocean views, or even party the night away.
Many of the adults-only venues on the Disney Dream cruise ship are concentrated in The District, an entertainment neighborhood featuring five trendy lounges:
In addition to The District lounges on deck 4, the Disney Dream also features a marvelous quiet bar named Meridian, which is located between the Remy and Palo restaurants on deck 12. The Cove Cafe and Vista lounges are quiet places to enjoy coffee, conversation, a good book, or the Internet. Those looking for a drink when outdoors by the pool can check out the Quiet Cove Pool swim-up bar, Currents, or the Waves bar.
Many older kids think they are adults and will want to be included in the adults-only areas. However, they won't feel left out since they have their own exclusive areas--the tweens (ages 11 to 13) at Edge in one of the ship's funnels on deck 13, and the teens (ages 13 to 17) at the Vibe Teen Club on deck 5 forward.
Although the Disney Dream has many places for adults and older kids to escape the younger children or the "real" world, the cruise ship has many family-friendly lounges and theaters such as the D Lounge, Buena Vista Theater, and Walt Disney Theater.
Disney Dream - District Lounge
The District Lounge is the first entertainment venue seen upon entering The District on the Disney Dream cruise ship. This large full-service bar has comfortable, stylish seating and an open floor plan. It's a good place to gather before or after dinner and listen to the live piano music or other entertainment.
Disney Dream - Evolution
Evolution is the largest and premier venue in The District on the Disney Dream. It's like a nightclub at sea, with a contemporary butterfly motif. Evolution has a lighted dance floor that changes colors with the intensity of the music. The Evolution bar is backlit, and the seating is tiered, with many banquettes around the perimeter of the room.
In addition to dancing, Evolution features many large-scale evening events such as comedy acts, cabaret shows, themed dance parties, live musical performances, and other adult entertainment.
Disney Dream - 687
Adjacent to The District, 687 is a pub and sports bar. The name 687 is a reference to the "block number" of the Disney Dream, the vessel number assigned by the shipyard and denoted on every block and every piece of steel used to build the Disney Dream cruise ship.
The casual 687 bar is a great place to watch live sports or major events on the several flat screen televisions, one of which is 103 inches wide and has digital surround sound.
The 687 has two small banquette seating niches, each with its own LCD screen, perfect for small groups of four or five to watch their own choice of events.
As one might expect from a pub, 687 has a wide range of international and domestic beers as well as a full selection of wines and cocktails. The pub even has its own exclusive red lager, appropriately named "687", which is malty and slightly sweet, made with Noble hops grown in central Europe. The 687 also offers its own special cocktail, The Shipbuilder, made with grappa, limoncello, pear vodka, agave nectar, and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
Disney Dream - Ocean Views from 687
The 687 pub is on the outside of the Disney Dream and has the large portholes that I love, providing amazing views of the sea.
Disney Dream - Snacks in the District
When many of us are drinking, we enjoy a snack, and The District has this nice snack bar area found between The District Lounge and 687 on the Disney Dream. Guests can enjoy hot dogs and buffet finger foods in the evening.
Disney Dream - Pink
Pink is has an elegant and upscale atmosphere, and I predict it will be a favorite of all the women cruising on the Disney Dream. Pink has an art nouveau decor, with glass bubbles covering the walls. It's like being in a champagne glass! To add a touch of Disney whimsy, the famous pink elephants from "Dumbo" appear to dance in the bubbles.
The wall behind the bar has dew-drop shaped glass in pink and gold, and the light fixtures look like champagne flutes.
Pink is ideal for a pre-dinner drink or late-night romantic toast. The intimate bar serves champagne and other sparkling wines, but also has a full-service bar.
Disney Dream - Skyline
The Disney Dream Skyline full-service bar features views of some of the world's most famous cities, including Paris, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Chicago, and Hong Kong, thanks to the use of seven, 65-inch LCD screens that depict a different locale each day. On the two-day Disney Dream cruise I was on, this bar was packed both evenings. People love the feeling of being in an exotic location, and the skylines change transform from day to evening in real time as the day progresses.
Each city has its own signature cocktails, which change with the changing skyline.
Disney Dream - Meridian
The District is not the only place for adults to relax and have a drink on the Disney Dream. Meridian is a quiet bar on deck 12 with amazing ocean views and easy access to Palo and Remy, the two elegant adults-only restaurants.
Meridian has a nautical theme, with decor inspired by the olden days of sea travel. A sextant navigational tool is imbedded in the floor, and the banquettes have buckles to resemble old steamer trunks.
Leather maps embossed with passport stamps from around the world adorn the walls.
Meridian also has a marvelous outdoor seating area and cigar bar that overlook the aft of the Disney Dream.
Although the location is perfect for a before- or after-dinner drink for those dining at Remy or Palo, other guests may use Meridian, although the bar has the same dress code as Palo (dress shirt or jacket for men and dress or pantsuit for women).
Disney Dream - Currents
The Disney Dream has an adults-only area on deck 11 called the Cove. The Cove has its own pool, sitting area with comfortable lounge chairs, bar, and the small Cove Cafe.
The Cove Cafe is a peaceful retreat for adults seeking a good cup of gourmet coffee and a place to read or use their WiFi device to surf the Internet.
Disney Dream - D Lounge
Not all the bars and lounges on the Disney Dream are found indoors. The pool deck area has three bars with adult libations--Currents bar on deck 13, Waves bar on deck 12, and the Quiet Cove pool bar on deck 11.
Not all of the lounges on the Disney Dream are just for adults, tweens, or teens. The D Lounge on deck 4 is like a huge family room and is fun for the entire family. The D Lounge seats 350 guests and has all sorts of "game night" entertainment in the evening. Throughout the day, D Lounge offers about 20 activities for specific ages or interests as well as for whole families.
The D Lounge is used much like the Rockin D Bar on the Disney Magic.
