Mildew & Mold Will Not Sand Off of a Wood Floor

    • 1). Put on rubber gloves, eye goggles and an N-95 respirator mask. This will help reduce your exposure to mold and mildew.

    • 2). Open your windows and turn on a fan to get the wood as dry as possible.

    • 3). Mix 8 tbsp. of mild alkali, such as washing soda or trisodium phosphate, and 1 gallon of water. Mild alkalis can be purchased at most paint and grocery stores.

    • 4). Scrub the mold and mildew using the mixture and a stiff brush.

    • 5). Rinse the wood thoroughly with clean water and allow it to dry.

    • 6). Consider applying a mildew and mold resistant paint. Moreover, consider using a dehumidifier or air condition to keep the relative humidity in your room between 35 and 50 percent. This will help prevent future mildew and mold growth.
