- 1). Bend the centers of six metal rods gently over a table or bench so they curve slightly. Compare the rods with each other while bending to keep the curve even.
- 2). Mark a 5.5-inch-diameter circle on the wood square using a compass.
- 3). Mark and drill six holes on the circle using a drill fitted with a 5/16-inch bit. Space the holes fairly evenly around the circle.
- 4). Insert a metal rod into each hole, and position the rods so they curve slightly outward.
- 5). Create a ring around the top of the circle using garden wire. Wrap wire several times to create a ring about 3/4 inch thick. Cut the wire with pliers or wire cutters, and tuck the end inside the ring.
- 6). Fit the wire ring created in step 5 over the rods, and secure it to the rods with additional pieces of garden wire.
- 7). Repeat steps 5 and 6 as many times as desired, moving down the obelisk toward the base.
