- The engine's pistons had a firing order of the No. 1 piston firing first, the No. 4 piston firing second, the No. 2 firing third, the No. 5 firing fourth, the No. 3 firing fifth and the No. 6 piston firing last. The ignition had a timing of 10 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).
- The main bearing bolts had 72 ft.-lbs. of torque, the exhaust manifold had 16 ft.-lbs. of torque and the lower intake manifold had 7 ft.-lbs. of torque. The cylinder head had 24 ft.-lbs. of torque in step one and 90 degrees of torque in step two.
- The 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 SOHC engine had a compression ratio of 9.7 to 1 and a bore by stroke of 3.95 inches and 3.32 inches. It had a peak torque of 300 ft.-lbs. at 3,950 rpm and a peak horsepower of 292 hp at 5,750 rpm.
