- While engine oil is arguably one of the most important aspects of automobile maintenance, it carries only three specifications--oil weight, drain plug torque and filter size. The 2005 Daimler Chrysler Crossfire came with two variations of a 3.2L six-cylinder engine, each with separate engine oil specifications. The eighth digit of the Vehicle Identification Number located on the lower driver's side corner of the windshield is the engine code that can identify which specifications to use.
- The Crossfire engine code L uses WIX 51226 oil filter or an equivalent with a recommended 8.5 quarts of SAE 5w40 engine oil. The drain plug torques to 22 foot pounds of torque.
- The only difference in the engine codes is the filter used in the engines. Engine code N requires a WIX 57078 oil filter or equivalent. The torque specifications of the drain plug, oil capacity, and weight are the same.
- The engine oil weight recommendations work with all weather conditions, but you should evaluate your use of the vehicle before selecting an oil. Prolonged driving or higher mileage on the vehicle implies you should use a heavier weight oil or a high mileage oil. When a torque wrench is not available to replace the drain plug, tighten the drain plug to hand tight and then approximately a half to three-quarters turn more by ratchet.
