We do not love without the risk of loss. Losing a partner is a painful and sometimes traumatizing experience that can leave us feeling desperate and alone. No matter what the reason for the split, there are plenty of ways to help you move on.
But...
At the same time, keep in mind that what will help you move on, will also have the effect of making your ex re-consider the breakup and find you desirable again. (For a complete strategy and help on this subject, see the link in the last paragraph of this article in the "about the author" box)
The techniques below have helped a number of people actually get back together after a breakup. That's because they allow you to keep a clear head and not seem desperate or clingy (two of the most common mistakes people make after a breakup).
This in turn builds attraction.
One of the simplest ways to help you move on is to start concentrating on yourself and actually taking care of yourself.
People like people who like themselves. This is attractive. People on the other hand don't like others who drown their sorrows in self-pity and don't make effort to come out of it.
In any case, one of the first things you should consider in order to get your head straight on is to exercise. You may think I am joking, or... this sounds too simple...? Well, as simple as it sounds it will do you good. The mind cannot function well, without the body.
It may sound strange, but many people find exercise to be a good way to help achieve a healthy mind. If you are depressed, exercise can help raise your self esteem. A higher level of self esteem will make it easier for you to move on (and will make you look more attractive... also to your ex).
Also, exercise will get you out of the house. Often after break ups, it is very easy to fall into depression. But you do not want to sit in your house all day. Immobilization will make things harder for you.
Also, the quicker that things end, the faster you can move on. If you have broken up recently, it isn't uncommon to want to linger in your past relationships. You may find yourself looking at old photos, or finding ways to talk to your ex. It is best, however, to cut off all ties immediately. It will be hard, but it is for the best. Once you have cut the ties, you can allow yourself to move on.
You should also try to stay away from the cheap and easy ways of avoiding pain.
Don't use alcohol, or other drugs to help you forget your ex. Breaking up is very painful, but is a necessary pain that you have to deal with. Drugs will ultimately make things worse, and will not help you move on. They will just numb the pain, not get rid of it.
There is always the risk of losing when we choose to love. When the unfortunate time comes, when lovers split ways, it is important to know that life moves on.
