Family Activities in the Poconos

    Skiing

    • For families vacationing in the winter, skiing can be a nice way to get outdoors and get some exercise. As you might expect, the Pocono Mountain range has several ski resorts with slopes for all levels. The Alpine Mountain Ski & Snow Tubing Center in Analomink has 21 trails, ranging from learn-to-ski bunny slopes to black diamond hills for experts. The center also has tubing for those who aren't comfortable strapping on the skis. Other area ski resorts include the Big Boulder Ski Area in Lake Harmony and the Blue Mountain Ski Area in Palmerton.

    Fishing

    • Fishing is a year-round family activity in the Poconos. Trout and bass fishing is a popular activity throughout the region, both in the summer months and in the winter, when many ice fishermen head out onto the the frozen lakes. Some of the top fishing spots in the area, according to the Pocono Mountain Visitors' Bureau, include Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Bushkill, Beltzville State Park in Lehighton and Big Brown Fish and Pay Lakes in North Effort. Many lakes offer pole rentals, while also selling bait and tackle.

    Zoos

    • Kids and adults alike will love seeing the animals in the Poconos area zoos. The Claws 'N' Paws Wild Animal Park in Lake Ariel is open from May through October, with animal shows throughout the summer. Guests can see over 120 species of wild animals, while also getting to feed a giraffe and Lory parrots. The zoo has a special petting section that allows for an interactive day. The Country Junction "World's Largest General Store" in Lehighton has a large petting zoo in which guests can pet llamas, sheep, goats, geese and chickens. The zoo also has turkeys, peacocks and a giant bunny for guests to observe.

    Family Fun Parks

    • Families looking for a festive day out have a number of options across the Poconos area. Costa's Family Fun Park in Hawley offers go-karts, bumper boats and miniature golf, while Camelbeach Waterpark in Tannersville has 22 waterslides, a wave pool and a surfing ride perfect for those hot summer days. The Hotel of Horrors in Saylorsburg offers a haunted adventure for those visiting in the Halloween season.
