Poetry Revolution - The Growth of Popularity and Education of the Written Word

Over the past twenty years, poetry has gone through an amazing revolution.
It all started in 1980s with the transformation of media (the Internet for example), rap, and the emergence of slam poetry.
Before this current poetic era, poetry was published almost strictly within books, magazines, and sometimes newspapers.
Today, other media has been made available to the world public--most popularly, the Internet.
With the Internet growing roots and finally coming to full blossom in the mid-to-late 1990s, websites around the world began popping up.
Poets of every age created websites and message boards to share their own writings.
It was a poetic boom.
Both males and females learned how much impact word-expression can have to their own self-livelihood and their emotions.
As time went on, other media within the Internet opened up.
Membership websites started which allowed writers to post their poetry, audio uploading sites allowed poets to submit their read works, and others allowed members to upload videos of their readings.
For rap, which is a form of poetry, it became popular on street corners and eventually played on radios and television stations across the world.
Today, it is one of the most popular forms of music available.
Slam poetry, which is word written explicitly to be read allowed during a slam event, made new horizons accessible in clubs and cafes around the world.
Soon, teenagers, young adults, and thirty-somethings found new interest in poetry.
Open mic night now a fixture in many venues across the world.
In my opinion, the single most important part of the revolution is the Internet.
Teenagers have found their love with written word and have expressed themselves in ways they weren't privy to in the past.
There are discussions, tips, examples, and tens-of-thousands of poems within the Public Domain.
The information available is incredible.
A person who had never experienced poetry before can open up any number of websites and see how wonderful poetry can be.
