- 1). Collect the measurements needed. Place the measuring tape across the wall for length, vertically for the height and out toward you for the depth. Write the measurements down.
- 2). Outline the pieces needed for the display case with a pencil and ruler on plywood using the measurements gathered in the first step. The sides should be height by depth. The top and bottom pieces should be length depth. The back piece should be the height by length, plus an extra inch.
- 3). Use a jigsaw to cut out the pieces. Sandpaper each cut edge to remove splinters, cracks and misshapen wood.
- 4). Place the two sides in front of you, so that they are standing on their 1/2-inch sides. Take the top and bottom pieces and place them both on their 1/2-inch sides and between the side pieces to create a box.
- 5). Attach each corner so that the box is complete. Secure two nails in each corner with a hammer. Place a level on top of the box to make sure the construction is even. Take the back piece and place it on top of the box. Attach it to the box with nails and a hammer.
- 6). Place a stud finder on the wall where the display case is to be mounted. Mark the wall each time the stud finder indicates a stud is present.
- 7). Hold the display cabinet up to the wall where the studs are marked. Mount the display case to the wall using 3-inch-long screws and a power screwdriver so that the screws go through the back side of the cabinet and into studs in the wall. Use at least three nails per stud and at least two wall studs, if possible. The cabinet must be securely mounted before adding its contents.
