- 1). Wear safety goggles, gloves and full body coverage when working to remove the mirror. Every person involved should be completely protected against the possibility of breaking glass.
- 2). Position at least one person in a place where he can support the weight of the mirror as it comes off the wall. For larger mirrors, use more people. Consider laying a mattress or other soft padding below your work area in case the mirror falls.
- 3). Hold a strand of cutout wire taut between your hands. This wire is often used in windshield repair and is available from automotive specialty shops. You can also use piano wire.
- 4). Slide the wire under the top corner of the mirror, between the mirror and the wall. If you can't fit the wire behind, gently pry this top corner away from the wall with a putty knife or other type of pry.
- 5). Saw the wire gently back and forth, cutting through the adhesive. Cut your way slowly down the length of the mirror, separating the adhesive from the wall. The mirror will gradually pull away from the wall. Eventually, the weight of the unglued portion of the mirror will pull the rest away from the wall, so have your support helpers ready to catch.
