To be healthy, one must practice healthy habits like exercising and eating right.
This article will discuss the latter, eating the right and how to do so.
In short, nutrition tips and advices will be talked about.
This is even more important for cancer sufferers.
It is a good ritual to always eat a protein at each meal.
For Westerners, this is the norm; eating red meat is your staple diet everyday.
As for 'Asians', this is not really true.
Some 'Asians' only eat rice (staple food) and vegetables.
While this is great for fibre intake, it is not advisable as protein is neglected.
Those undergoing cancer treatment tend to require more protein than a healthy, normal person does.
Why? Cancer patients need to repair more body tissue as well as strengthen the immune system.
This also helps with preserving lean body mass, that is constantly on the loss due to treatments.
Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish, poultry (farm animals), dairy products, nuts, beans, peas and lentils.
When choosing an animal protein source, always go with fresh meat, as compared with processed foods (canned foods).
Eat as much fruits, vegetables and whole grains whenever possible.
A solid advice is to eat all colors of fruits, if you can.
Also, consume enough calories to maintain your usual weight.
Fats, especially healthy fats, are required by the body to keep our joints, brain and other tissues in good working condition.
Bad fats are saturated fats and 'trans' fatty acids.
It also very easily increases the calorie amount in foods.
Foods like avocados, nut, fish and oils provide all the healthy fats you need.
Lastly, drink 8 to 12 glasses of fluids daily, preferably water.
Fluids are needed to flush out toxins and to keep the body hydrated (as the body is primarily two thirds of water).
It also helps with bowel movements or passing of motion, especially if fibre is taken on a regular basis.
