Indian love marriage scenarios, especially when they have to be sanctioned by the couple's families present a more complex scenario than love marriages elsewhere.
His latest novel is a fictitious story based on his own experience.
The protagonists in the story Krish and Ananya hail from Punjab and Tamil Nadu respectively.
Both folks fall in love with each other and plan to get married, however, find it extremely difficult to convince their parents because the families hail from two different cultures apart being from two different states.
He faced a similar situation when he fell in love with his class mate Anusha from IIM Ahmedabad.
Both faced a tough time convincing their parents for their nuptials.
Chetan Bhagat is a Punjabi who hails from Delhi while Anusha is a Tamilian Brahmin from Tamil Nadu.
Such a situation is common in the country especially if the families are from two different cultures as in his case as they need to come on a common ground in various cultural, social, personal, as well as family matters before discussions about the wedding can proceed further.
Situations are often very excruciating and a lot of friction can ensue if matters are not handled with a delicate hand.
Chetan is now happily married and well settled into life and blessed with two twins Ishaan and Shyam.
His previous novels have inspired Bollywood films, For example, the novel 'One Night @ the Call Centre' inspired the film Hello, while his book '5 Point Someone' largely inspired the film '3 Idiots'.
His book 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life' has also inspired a film which is still in the works.
