After you have made the decision to adopt a dog; now is the time to decide what type of doghouse you will need to purchase or make.
Obviously the size that you will need will be based on the full grown size of your dog.
You certainly don't want to have to get two of them.
It is a personal decision on how big or small you want your dog house.
Some people really like to have them big and comfy for their dogs to be able to put their toys in and hide their bones and such.
With others they just want them to sleep in them.
Whatever you decide on you will need to follow somewhat of a guideline to make absolute sure that they will be comfortable and not too cramped.
The height of the house should at least no less than nine inches more than the average size of that particular fully grown breed.
As far as the length goes make sure it is at the very minimum of a foot and a half longer than the dog from the nose to the base of the tail.
For the width just make sure they have enough room to turn around and lay down with a space of an extra foot or so.
You have figured out the size of the house now you will need to determine the style.
You can have a doghouse that is a miniature version of your own residence or it can resemble a cabin.
You could also just have a standard wire kennel or cage type.
Another really popular style is the igloo design.
You will also need to really make sure you have the right type so that your dog is kept either cool or warm in the different temperatures in your climate.
You want to choose the perfect place to locate the dog house because you do not want it to be near any water run off areas.
It is also a really good idea to elevate it a bit to help keep the insects and other small animals out.
