- 1). Measure the length of your pool. Place the tape measure at the two farthest points across the length of the pool, from the most distant points.
- 2). Measure the width of the pool at the widest point. Variances are not a big issue for when measuring the pool's width.
- 3). Calculate the average depth of your pool. For example, if the pool's shallow end is three feet and the deep end nine feet, your average depth is six feet.
- 4). Multiply the pool's length times its width times its average depth. Take this figure and multiply it by 5.9, the common multiplier for calculating an oval pool water volume. The resulting figure is your pool's approximate water volume.
