Peter Reckell Contacted Days About Returning as Bo Brady
The fans spoke and Peter Reckell listened. After filling the Days of Our Lives alum in on what had been transpiring in Salem of late -- namely, Hope deciding to divorce Bo and move on with a new man, Aiden -- Reckell contacted the show's powers-that-be and inquired about making a brief return as Bo Brady.
"Weeks ago you filled me in on what was happening with Hope's storyline," posted Reckell on Twitter.
"I called the show to see if it was time for Bo to make an appearance. With the connection Bo and Hope have always shared, I thought he could give her the OK to move on with her life, in a dream or something."
Unfortunately, due to the show's advanced taping schedule -- production is five months ahead -- it wasn't possible.
"The writers have written far ahead, and my suggestions are a bit too late. Which makes sense, so nothing came of that conversation," he added.
Needless to say, that's not what Reckell's fans wanted to hear. If Bo and Hope have to be officially over, they would prefer an ending that doesn't paint Bo as a deadbeat husband and father who abandoned his family.
"You say Bo's actions are out of character," tweeted Reckell. "That's a writer's way of foreshadowing something, in character, happening down the road."
Perhaps, but at the moment that does little to satisfy disappointed Bo and Hope fans.
In the interim, Reckell has been hinting that there may be another project on the horizon for him.
"With luck I'll have some answers by next week," he revealed on Twitter. "I'll let u know what's happening as soon as I know. Thanks 4 your patience and understanding.
Reckell last aired as Days' Bo in October 2012. He has been adamant that he left the soap for one reason and one reason alone: to devote more time to his family, wife Kelly Moneymaker and their daughter Loden, 6.
In a recent Twitter post, he said, "those of u who r concerned or have been led astray by rumors, let me clarify things. My reasons for leaving r the same as David Letterman's. He left his show of many years to spend time with his family. If you spent an hour with my daughter you'd see why I would rather be with her. Our time with our children is so very short, I want to spend as much time as I can with my family. I missed a lot, and I had to change that."
Reckell added that the Days of Our Lives brass did call him about a year and a half ago, at which point he and the show tried to work out something.
"But we couldn't come to an agreement," tweeted Reckell, adding, "Money was NOT the issue."
