- 1). Clean the floor thoroughly. Use a shop vac to remove any dust or debris so you have a clean surface to work with.
- 2). Use a spray adhesive on the floor. This will help hold the plastic vapor barrier in place so it doesn't slip or slide.
- 3). Add the plastic vapor barrier. Place it down over the spray adhesive on the floor. The plastic vapor barrier will prevent moisture damage to the laminate floor.
- 4). Keep the laminate floor ¼-inch away from the wall. This is important because it will change and fluctuate, depending on the temperature in the room. Your floorboards or baseboards will cover this gap.
- 5). Stagger the laminate flooring as you install it. When you get close to the wall, measure the space left and then use a power saw to cut your piece of laminate flooring to fit.
- 6). Connect the pieces of laminate floor as you lay them down. They are connected with tongue-and-groove joints. The tongue of one piece of laminate floor will connect to the groove of the other.
