How to Convert Photos From RGB to CMYK for Printing

    • 1). Ask your printer what kind of machine it will be doing the work on and if it has any recommended CMYK color settings. If you are printing on a personal printer, write down its brand and number.

    • 2). Open your image editor, and load the file you want to convert. Click on "Edit," Color Setting." Under the settings drop-down list, pick the description that nearest matches what you have been told from your professional printer or what you know from your own machine. If you're not sure, you can leave it to the default setting.

    • 3). Make any necessary adjustments to the photo. When you are happy with its look, select "Image," "Mode," "CMYK Color." The image is now in the correct format, but some of the colors may have lost their brilliance.

    • 4). Open "Image," "Adjust," "Brightness/Contrast" and increase the contrast slider to help get back any luster you might have lost from the original. You can also play with Saturation in "Image," "Adjust," "Hue & Saturation." Increasing the saturation will increase the strength of the individual colors.

    • 5). Press "Ctrl" + "S" to save your work.
